Preliminary Task Evaluation

Overall I think that the Preliminary task was an important piece of work both to teach us how to film and how to edit. The main idea I picked up on is that you must be very precise and very patient with your filming as I found when you are not it can lead to a lot of problems in the editing.

When I filmed I would make sure that everything is level and ready to be filmed, filming itself can be a very enjoyable task although if you have filmed the same scene like five different times it can get a bit tedious, especially after you've filmed a good take and the actors laugh beforehand, making it hard to edit around. I filmed a match on action shot which was a challenge because I had to make sure the actor did the thing he did exactly the same way in both clips so that it would cut cleanly into one another.

When we finished filming I felt confident that editing would be easy. However I found out that when editing lots of problems can come up. Some of the ones that we faced where: when cutting to a different shot one of the actors arms was in a different position so it looked a bit off. Near the end of the film one of the actors pushes over a chair and violently opens a door, to put emphasis on his anger we edited the sound to be very loud at both points.

One of the big problems we faced was a jump in the footage, to solve this we added an extra shot of a mid shot of one of the actors which worked well in the final piece. We also found it very tedious trying to match one shot with another but in the end we managed to get it right.

I enjoyed the Preliminary task and am looking forward to the main piece of coureswork.
