These are some student films that I found interesting.




I think they have made this film in a great way I especially like the camera work because all the lines where done in one take so their was a very creative element that they used. However I think that the follow camera could have being improved but I can see how they tried to do an elaborate story. I think that the fast paced shots could have being improved.

I liked how all their lines where in one take so I might try to recreate that. although it would be hard as all the lines would have to be short and straight to the point.





I liked this opening because the general plot was good and I liked the use of close ups to highlight key features such as the persons face on the pages of the photocopier and the close of the wedding ring. However I thought that some of the camera shots were a bit shaky

I think I might use the tracking shot they used where it was a mid-shot at first and then the camera backs up as the person comes forward.
I think I will try to keep the camera on a tripod to make sure the shots aren't as shaky as this films.





I have to say this was probably my favorite film of the three because it used a wide range of creative camera shots such as the one from inside the hole with the actor looking down into it. I thought that the transition from the blanket to the inside of the picnic box was a very smart idea. My only criticism would probably be the flicker in the movie I personally wouldn't have added it but it was a nice effect it wasn't terrible it would just be a preference I wouldn't want.

I had something in mind along the lines of the blanket transition but mine would've being a boot steeping on the camera with some titles on the sole of it. I think I would like to use an effect like the static but mine would probably be just a grey filter or a light grey filter to make the film seem more dim with low key lighting.

Overall I liked this one the most as the plot is original and the camera shots/transitions are create and I enjoyed the film.

Research in Film Openings

I have chosen the opening sequence for Fresh Meat and Misfits. The reason for this is that I hope to pull off something similar to their title sequences as the words aren't physically there but they are corresponding to the image behind them. I hope to animate my text so that it isn't boring and just overlapping the image behind it. It would be much better to animate the text making it lively and catching the audience's attention.

Notice how the text is intarracting with the image, for example the TV is showing an actors name while the radio appears to be tuning in to a station but again it's an actors name as though it where a station. This inspires me to make my own titles a bit like this following specifc colour schemes and such.

Unfortunantly I cannot get the Misfits opening sequence as it has been copyrighted on youtube and I can't find it anywhere else.

However in the sequence the text again are used in harmony with the image behind them for example an actor is running and as he runs past the titles appear behind him. The titles themselves are in a grimey font as thought they have being spray painted again this works with the context of the show.

Their top grossing film of all time is Transformers: Dark of the moon coming in at $1.12 billion worldwide.


20th Century Fox was founded in 1935 by William Fox. It is owned by the fox news corporation. It both produces and distributes films and is worth $5.8 billion, it also distributes T.V. shows such as the Simpsons, futurama, family guy, etc. Their top grossing film was Avatar which made $2.78 billion. The great thing about 20th Century Fox is that they make different types of films but all in all they make sci-fi, action, adventure, thriller films.


Working Title was founded in 1983 by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe. It is owned by Universal Studios. It mainly produces films.


Universal Studios was founded in 1912. It is owned by NBC Universal. This company distributes films. Their top grossing film was E.T. it made $359.1 million. The films they usually do are high cost films with special effects in them.

Introduction to the Brief

Today we were introduced to our main coursework task. I am excited to get started on the coursework. We have being told to create a title and film opening for a fiction film, that lasts two minutes. I am looking forward to doing this task as I feel it will be a fun experience. Some of the work already has inspired me and so I think this will be an enjoyable task.

Todays lesson we looked a scripts and how to make a scripts we then read a short story and created a short script for the story. I did Avocado Baby, we didn't finish the script but we made an attempt

Se7en Title Sequence - Codes and Conventions

The Se7en title sequence shows both codes and conventions of a thriller/horror film.
This is the title sequence:

It shows many different conventions for example: there is low key lighting to produce a mystery effect, that we cannot see the full picture. We aren't shown the person's face, this creates anticipation and can be seen as an enigma code as we begin to wonder who this person is and why is he doing what he is doing. The man is shaving of his fingers, this could be a symbolic code as he is trying to erase his fingerprints this can be tied to criminals we can now see him as doing something wrong.

Most of the titles themselves are in messy handwriting this is a technical code as it is relating the titles to the man's handwriting making it seem like the man has written the titles as well. The sound's are non-diegetic, you can hear a faint scream making this more eerie. And in the final part of the title sequence you can hear someone say 'I want to be closer to god' this can be seen as a enigma and verbal code, what he says can be interpreted as possible suicide or doing the work of God but both are still uncertain as it is to early in the film.

I think this film opening very nicely portrays some of the codes and conventions of a thriller genre film; verbally, technically and symbolically. It has a very nice touch to it with the messy handwriting and the highlighted words all to show something to the viewer.
